Silva and Faria Notch Hat Tricks as Mens Soccer Opens Season with 6-1 Win Over Johnson & Wales
Framingham, Mass. — Senior midfielder Scotty Faria
(Fall River, Mass.) and senior forward Jason Silva
(Northbridge, Mass.) each picked up a hat trick as the Framingham
State University men's soccer team opened the 2010 season with a
6-1 non-conference win over Johnson and Wales University at Maple
Street Field this afternoon.
Johnson and Wales (0-1) scored first and took a 1-0 lead in the
18th minute on sophomore Ben Bellows (Chester, Conn.)
first goal of the season.
The Rams (1-0) would score six unanswered goals en route to the
win. Silva tied the game at 21:01 of the first half as
converted off an assist from sophomore Cory Ferris
(Somerset, Mass.). Silva would add his second in the
33rd minute to send the game to half with the Rams
leading 2-1. Junior Richie Green (Haverhill, Mass.) assisted
on Silva's second tally.
Faria scored the Rams first three goals of the second half to
push the Rams lead to 5-1 and Silva finished the scoring in the
83rd minute with his third of the game.
Joe Ferraro (Freehold, NJ) picked up the loss in net for the
Wildcats making 11 saves, while Greg Halle
(Beverly, Mass.) picked up his first win and made five stops for
the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Gordon
College at 2 p.m., while the Wildcats travel to Springfield College
on Saturday at noon.
