Framingham, Mass. – Freshman Shannon Connerty (Nashua, NH) tallied seven goals and two assists to lead Plymouth State University to a 20-7 victory this afternoon over the host Framingham State University Rams in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Maple Street Field.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-1 on the year, while the Rams fall to 4-6.
Connerty and freshman Megan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.) each tallied a pair of goals in the game first six minutes as the Panthers jumped out to the early lead.
Plymouth State scored the game's next nine goals as they built a 13-1 lead with 5:50 left in the half and never looked back. Connerty and sophomore McKenna Bay each scored three times on the run.
The Rams would add a pair of goals late in the half as Kerri Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) scored off a Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) assist and McLean converted a free position shot to cut into the Panther lead.
Connerty scored twice for Plymouth to open the second half as they scored the first four goals in the frame.
Temple scored twice for the Rams in the second half as she converted a free position shot and scored off a Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) assist and Kiley tallied twice unassisted late to account for the Rams four second half goals.
Bay finished the game with three goals and an assist for the Panthers, while McNabb tallied a pair of goals and dished out a game-best three assists. Freshmen Emily Davis (Boscawen, NH) came off the bench to score a pair of goals for the Panthers.
The Panthers outshot the Rams 33-17 in the game. Sophomore Lorin Field (Hollis, NH) picked up the victory in the net making four saves in a half of work, while Ally Baribauilt (Middle Hamm, Conn.) made three saves. Sophomore Rebecca Rixon (Stow, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams making three saves and freshman Ashley Holmes (East Sandwich, Mass.) made one in relief.
The Rams return to NEWLA action on Saturday afternoon when they host Mass. Maritime at noon, while the Panthers travel to LEC foe Eastern Connecticut on Saturday at 1 p.m.
