Salem State Topples Women's Lacrosse

Salem, Mass. - Kelsey Russell (Arlington, Mass.) recorded six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Vikings of Salem State University to a 17-5 victory over the Rams of Framingham State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's lacrosse game on Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Kristina Conlon (Dracut, Mass.) helped the Vikings get out to an early lead, scoring back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of the half. Russell lifted the Salem State lead to 3-0 with a goal at the 23-minute mark. Freshman Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.) answered for the Rams with a goal that cut the deficit to two with 18:30 remaining in the first.

Russell added two more goals to push the lead to 5-1, but shortly after, freshmen Jessica Graham (Woburn, Mass.) and Katelyn Belcher (Plymouth, Mass.) cut the deficit to two after they each added a goal. Kristina Ventura (Billerica, Mass.) contributed with three goals on the night, including one in the first to answer the back-to-back scores from the Rams. The Vikings outscored Framingham 4-1 in the remainder of the half as Salem State exited the first half with an 11-4 lead. During that stretch, Erin Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) added two goals, while Kristen Caso (Framingham, Mass.) and Ventura scored one apiece.

Conlon started the second half where she left off in the first with another goal to give the Vikings a commanding 12-4 lead. Riley and Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) extended the Salem State lead to 14-4 with a goal apiece.

Senior Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) scored for the Rams once more before the horn, but it wasn't enough as Salem State went on to win 17-5.

Conlon finished the game with five goals and three ground balls while Riley ended the game scoring three goals and two groundballs.

Vikings' netmider Chyenne Jackson (Peabody, Mass.) stopped 10 Rams shots and allowed five Framingham State goals in the win.

Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) saved 15 shots for the Rams and suffered the loss between the pipes.

Salem State hosts Regis College on April 8th at 7 p.m. at Alumni Field, while the Rams host the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth at 4:30 p.m. on April 8th.
