Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team received a game-best six goals from junior Lindsay White (Hanover, Mass.) as the Falcons defeated Framingham State University 17-2 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at Maple Street Field this afternoon.
With the win the Falcons improve to 4-7 on the year and 1-2 in the conference, while the Rams slip to 2-9 overall and are also 1-2 in the MASCAC.
White led all scorers with her six goals and shared game-high point honors with freshman Ali Laferriere (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who filled the stat sheet with five goals, an assist, and 13 draw controls. Senior Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass.) chipped in with three goals and an assist to go along with five ground balls.
Fitchburg State took control of game right from the start potting three goals in the game's first five minutes. White connected on a pair of markers, including a free position shot, just 27 seconds apart and Apple followed with an unassisted goal thirty seconds later.
Freshman Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) converted a free position shot with just over 22 minutes remaining in the first and classmate Lindsay Albert (Tyngsboro, Mass.) converted off a feed from Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.) to cut the Falcons lead to 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining.
It was all Fitchburg State from there as they closed the first with a 9-0 run to take a commanding 12-2 lead. Apple scored a pair of goals on the spurt, while Ali Laferriere also found the back of the net twice. Fitchburg State tacked on five more in the second half to reach the final margin.
The Falcons outshot the Rams 39-10 in the game including a 27-8 advantage during the game's first 30 minutes. Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) made 19 saves for the Rams, while Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the victory for the Falcons making three stops.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday at Worcester State at 7 p.m., while the Falcons host Mass. Maritime on Tuesday also at 7 p.m.
