Framingham, Mass. – Freshman outside hitter Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, N.Y.) has been selected the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Year and the Rams placed three on the 2017 All-MASCAC Teams in voting conducted by the league's coaches and announced by the conference office this morning.
Brinkman was a first team All-MASCAC selection along with junior setter Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.), while senior defensive specialist Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) was recognized on the second team.
Brinkman, who was recognized as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week six times during her freshman season, earns her first all-conference honors. She led the Rams with 244 total kills, 68 digs and 20 blocks. She averaged 2.77 kills per set played with a .141 hitting percentage.
Whalen earns her first all-conference honors after leading the Rams with 809 set assists and 57 services aces with 267 digs. Whalen averaged just under eight assists per set played seeing action in 31 matches this season.
Anderson earns her second All-MASCAC honors after an outstanding senior season capped by recording her 1,000 career dig in the MASCAC Tournament Finals match. Anderson recorded 515 digs on the year with 43 service aces and 48 set assists. Anderson averaged 4.5 digs per set and finished her four year career with 1,005 career digs.
The Rams finished the 2017 15-18 and advanced to the MASCAC Tournament finals were they fell to top seed Worcester State.
