Cambridge, Mass. – Senior quarterback Matt Silva (Dracut, Mass.) has been awarded the New England Football Writer's Gold Helmet Award for week two of the 2015 college football season. Silva is the Division II/III winner, while Sacred Heart defensive lineman Connor Caveney was the Division I recipient.
Silva had a record setting day for the Rams on September 12th throwing for a school record 510 yards and five touchdowns. However, the Rams were defeated 61-49 by SUNY Cortland in an offensive shootout that saw Framingham State set records for combined points in a game (110) and combined yards of total offense (1,071). The Rams trailed 41-28 entering the fourth quarter as Silva led a comeback tossing three touchdowns to cut the deficit to five in the waning minutes of the game. Silva set single game records for completions (43), attempts (59) and yards (510) in the game, while also rushing for another score. The Gold Helmet is the third of Silva's career as he previously won the award after the final week of the 2014 season and in the opening week of his rookie campaign in 2011.
