Bio
Mark Johnson enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Rams men’s and women’s cross country programs and the women’s outdoor track & field program in 2026, after serving as the interim head cross country coach in 2023.
Prior to taking over as the interim head cross country coach, Johnson had been an assistant with the FSU men’s and women’s cross country programs since 2017. He has also been an assistant coach with the outdoor women’s track and field program, working primarily with the middle-distance runners, long-distance runners and the throwing events.
In 2025, Johnson guided both Rams cross country programs to fourth-place finishes at the MASCAC Championships. The men’s team scored 101 points, led by a ninth-place finish from Aaron Corlette and a 12th-place showing from Vincent Gauthier, while the women’s team totaled 97 points behind a 12th-place finish from Meghan Johnston.
On the track & field side, Johnson’s women’s outdoor team finished fifth at the 2026 MASCAC Championships, paced by a pair of individual conference titles. Jamie Moniz won the javelin with a throw of 36.61 meters, and Kate Buban successfully defended her MASCAC crown in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 39:12.74.
Johnson has previously worked as an assistant equipment manager with the New England Revolution. He also spent time within the Wellesley Public Schools as a special education teacher in the Therapeutic Learning Center.
In addition to his duties with both cross country programs and the women’s outdoor track & field program, Johnson serves as a Staff Assistant within the athletic department and oversees the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
