Baseball Opens Season With 12-8 Setback Against Amherst

Winter Haven, Fla. — The Framingham State College baseball team opened the 2010 season this afternoon with a 12-8 loss to Amherst College in Winter Haven at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  The Rams scored four runs in the first inning, but fielding miscues eventually proved to be the difference maker in the game.

The Rams committed five errors in the game, while Amherst did not commit a single fielding miscue.  Framingham’s five errors led to seven of Amherst’s 12 runs including five unearned runs in the fifth inning that Amherst used to take the lead for good.

Framingham State junior right-hander Tommy Lindberg (Stratford, Conn.) made the start on the mound for the Rams and went four innings allowing five runs, 0 earned runs on just three hits.  Lindberg struck out five in his first start in a Rams uniform.

The Rams, who scored mounted a comeback in the top of the ninth that saw them push three runs across the plate, received solid offensive contributions from a trio of newcomers.  Freshman outfielder Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) was 2-for-4 in the game with a triple and three RBI.  Junior Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while Danny Chaisson (Watertown, Mass.) picked up a single with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Rams return to action tomorrow again in Winter Haven as they face Endicott College in a double header beginning at 1:30 p.m.
