Baseball Advances in MASCAC Tournament with 15-9 Victory over Westfield State

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - The sixth seeded Framingham State University baseball team knocked off third seed Westfield State 15-9 this afternoon in an opening round game of the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament at Hendy Field.  The Rams advance in the tournament and will face second seed Mass. Maritime this evening at approximately 5 p.m. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 15, Westfield State 9 

- Records: Framingham State (14-26), Westfield State (26-12)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • After a scoreless first, the Rams got on the board with three runs in the top of the third. Johnny Lynch scored on a wild pitch and Lucas Basile launched a two-run home run to deep center. 

  • The Owls took the lead in the bottom of the inning as they plated five runs including a grand slam. 

  • The Rams received and RBI single from Lynch in the top of the third closing the gap to 5-4, but the Owls countered with a run in the bottom of the inning pushing the lead back to two. 

  • The Rams took advantage of a pair of Owl errors tying the game 6-6 in the top of the fourth, but the Owls used back-to-back two run homers in the bottom of the inning retaking the lead 8-6. 

  • Daniel Robichaud launched a two-run homer to right for the Rams in the top of the fifth tying the game once again. 

  • The Rams reclaimed the lead, 11-8, in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout from Steven Burbank and a two-run home run to right center from Dane Frellick. 

  • The Rams added three more runs in the top of the eighth including a two-run single from Lynch extending the lead to 14-8. Christian Cox added an RBI single in the top of the ninth pushing the lead to 15-8. 

  • Joshua Sunderland earned the victory by tossing six innings of relief. Sunderland went six innings allowing three earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.
