Baseball Closes Season with Split at Fitchburg State

FitchburgMass. - The Framingham State University basebalteam closed the season afternoon taking game one of a doubleheader 6-4 over Fitchburg State before falling 4-3 to the Falcons in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Riccardi Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In the opener, the Rams took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI groundouts from Johnny Lynch and Nicholas Kutcher. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the second on an RBI single from Massimo Mondi and an RBI ground out from Christian Cox. 

  • The Falcons cut the deficit in half in the fourth, but the Rams used a two run single from Mondi in the sixth to lead 6-2. 

  • The Falcons scored twice in the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Connor Thibault earned the victory going 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts, while Ben Respress earned the save. 

  • Mondi finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. 

  • In game two, a Lynch ground out gave the Rams a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Falcns scored two in the bottom of the inning taking a 2-1 lead. 

  • The Falcons extended the lead to 3-1 in the second, but the Rams used a pair of Roscoe Palmer RBI singles to tie the game in the sixth. 

  • The Falcons took advantage of a Ram error in the seventh to walk off with the victory. 

  • Shaun Marsh started on the mound for the Rams and did not factor in the decision. He went 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Palmer finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Kutcher went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
