Football Falls 24-21 to LaGrange in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State University football team scored a touchdown with 23 second remaining to pull within three but could not recover the onside kick as the Rams saw their season end with a 24-21 loss to LaGrange College in an opening round game of the 2025 NCAA Football Championship at Bowditch Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams amassed 319 yards of offense in the game including 278 yards passing, while LaGrange totaled 307 yards including 129 rushing. 

  • For the Rams, Michael Marcucella completed 25-of-4passes for 278 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  

  • Adrian Sarrette made eight catches on the day for 82 yards and a touchdown, while Ty Kelley made three catches for 76 yards. 

  • The Rams defense was paced by seven tackles, including half a tackle for a loss from James Wilder, while Kymauny Roland chipped in with six tackles including two for a loss and a sack. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Panthers got on the board first on a 37-yard field goal from Landon Eaker with 3:13 to play in the opening quarter. 

  • The Rams grabbed the lead on a 37-yard touchdown run from Jaheim Daniels with 9:51 to play in the second, but the Panthers retook the lead in the closing minute of the half on a two-yard touchdown run from Kirk Scott. 

  • LaGrange extended the lead to ten points on a 24-yard touchdown run in the opening three minutes of the third. 

  • The Rams answered with a seven-play90-yard drive capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Marcucella to Sarrette to pull within three, 17-14, with 1:22 to go in the third. The drive included a 59-yard reception by Kelley to set up the score. 

  • LaGrange added a touchdown with three minutes to play in the fourth, extending the lead back to ten. 

  • The Rams took over with 3:06 to play, moved the ball down the field, pulling within three on a two-yard run by Marcucella with 23 seconds on the clock. 

  • The Rams attempted an onside kick, but the Panthers recovered to seal the victory and advance in the tournament.
