Field Hockey Edges Bridgewater in 3-2 OT Thriller on Senior Day

Framingham, MA – The Framingham State field hockey team staged a late comeback to defeat Bridgewater State 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon, at Maple Street Field. The victory came in dramatic fashion, with the Rams scoring twice in the final quarter and clinching the win in extra time. 

THE BASICS: 

Score: Framingham State 3, Bridgewater State 2 (OT) 

Records: Framingham State (8-9, 5-4), Bridgewater State (7-9, 3-6) 

Location: Maple Street Field, Framingham, MA 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Bridgewater State took an early lead in the first quarter when Madison Ellis scored in the fourth minute, assisted by Charlotte McElroy. The Bears maintained that 1-0 advantage through the middle periods, fending off Framingham's efforts to equalize. 

  • Framingham State found their breakthrough in the final quarter as Marina Cadena scored off a pass from Kaylee Beck at the 46th minute, tying the game at 1-1.  

  • The Bears quickly responded, reclaiming the lead with a goal by Makena Flanagan, assisted by Kallie Rose, at the 55th minute. 

  • Framingham State refused to back down. Less than two minutes later, Angelina Serra converted a penalty stroke to force the match into overtime.

  • In the extra period, Kaylee Beck played hero for the Rams, scoring the decisive goal off the rebound of a Bears defensive save in the 65th minute, capping off the dramatic comeback. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots: Bridgewater State edged Framingham State in shots, 22-19. 

  • Saves: Framingham State's Kaitlyn Tello tallied nine saves, while Brianna Gagnon had eight stops for the Bears. 

  • Penalty Corners: The Bears had a slight advantage in penalty corners, 9-6.

The Rams return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Worcester State for a MASCAC clash at 4:30pm.
