Westfield State Tops Field Hockey in MASCAC Opener

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State field hockey team fell to Westfield State 2-0 in a hard-fought match at Maple St. Field on Tuesday evening.  

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Westfield State 2, Framingham State 0 

  • Records: Westfield State (3-3, 1-0 MASCAC), Framingham State (1-5, 0-1 MASCAC) 

  • Location: Maple Street Field, Framingham, MA 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Westfield State opened the scoring early in the first period with an unassisted goal by Kaleigh Murphy at the 2:32 mark. 

  • The Owls extended their lead in the second period when Ashley D'Elia found the back of the net off an assist from Kacey Curran at 21:15. 

  • Despite a strong defensive effort, the Rams were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, with Westfield State's goalkeeper Emma Gniadek making two key saves to secure the shutout. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Framingham State managed eight shots, with two on goal, while Westfield State recorded 21 shots, five of which were on target. 

  • The Rams' goalkeeper Kaitlyn Tello made three saves in the match. 

  • Both teams received one green card each, with Westfield State's Shannon Gover and Framingham State's Natalia Roehr being penalized. 

  • Westfield State had a significant advantage in penalty corners, earning nine to Framingham State's two.
