Clutch Free Throws Send Men’s Basketball to Overtime Victory over Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team received a pair of free throws from Lorenzo Washington with no time on the clock and opened overtime with a 7-0 run as the Rams defeated Fitchburg State 83-74 in overtime this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Rams were led by a team-high 24 points from Vondre Chase. Chase connected on 8-of-13 from the floor and added eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block.
  • Dyree Rogers finished the night with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals, while Joshua Saint Jean added a double double of 10 points and 10 boards.
  • AJ Thompson came off the bench to score 10 points as he connected on 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
  • In a back and forth first half, the Rams led 20-14 after a three-point play from AJ Thompson with just under seven minutes to play.  The Falcons chipped away at the lead and went to the locker room trailing 29-28.  Dyree Rogers led the Rams with seven points in the first half.
  • In the second half, the Falcons opened a 51-40 lead midway through the frame.  The Rams used a 10-3 spurt capped by a Joshua Saint Jean layup to close the gap to 54-50 with just over seven on the clock.
  • The Rams chipped away at the Falcon lead and tied the game at 66-66 on a Thompson three with 1:30 to play and they took the lead on a Washington layup with 1:09 to go.
  • Fitchburg used a layup and pair of free throws to retake a 70-68 lead with 25 seconds to go.  After a miss, the Rams forced a jump ball and had one last possession with 5/5 on the clock.
  • Washington missed a three, but got his own rebound and was fouled as time expired. Washington hit both free throws with no time on the clock sending the game to overtime.
  • The Rams opened overtime with a 7-0 run with Chase scoring all seven points and they maintained the lead to secure the victory.
