Men's Ice Hockey Fall to Trailblazers in North Adams, 7-2

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – MCLA scored four first-period goals and pulled away for a 7-2 victory over Framingham State on Saturday evening at the Peter W. Foote Ice Rink. Easton Moore recorded three assists to lead the Trailblazers' offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Cody White opened the scoring just 2:34 in, converting off assists from Sam Zis and Luke Rhoss. Rhoss doubled the lead at 5:10 with a goal from Colin Ogborn as MCLA caught the Rams on their heels early.
  • A five-minute major penalty on Scott Bugarin at 9:58 gave the Trailblazers an extended man advantage, and Christopher Gallagher cashed in at 11:08 with a goal assisted by Moore to make it 3-0.
  • Penalty trouble continued for Framingham State. Jack Ennis went off for slashing at 15:32 and Devin Shepherd followed with a high-sticking call at 18:18. Cade Herrera buried a power-play goal on the Shepherd penalty from Gallagher and Moore, sending MCLA into the intermission up 4-0. The Trailblazers went 2-for-3 on the power play in the period while outshooting the Rams 23-7.
  • With Framingham State on its first power play of the night in the second, Quinn Murphy scored shorthanded at 10:04 to extend the lead to 5-0 and chase Kilgallen from the crease. Owen Swanbon entered in relief.
  • The Rams finally found life on a 5-on-3 advantage when Brent Scott broke the shutout at 16:23, assisted by Jake Barcelou. Samuel Larkin added an even-strength goal at 18:05 to cut it to 5-2 entering the third.
  • Sam Perdion restored the four-goal cushion at 13:17 of the third off a feed from Moore, and Zis added an unassisted tally at 18:39 to close the scoring. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • MCLA outshot Framingham State 44-32, including a 23-7 first-period edge.
  • The Trailblazers dominated the faceoff circle, winning 46-of-71 draws (64.8%).
  • Framingham State went 1-for-5 on the power play; MCLA was 2-for-3 with an additional shorthanded goal.
  • Kilgallen stopped 25 of 30 shots before giving way to Swanbon, who made 12 saves on 14 shots.
  • The Rams were penalized 21 minutes on five infractions, including Bugarin's five-minute major.
