Men's Ice Hockey Rolls Past Rivier, 5-2, Behind Multi-Goal Night from Bugarin

FRAMINGHAM, MASS – The Framingham State men's hockey team picked up a commanding 5-2 victory over Rivier on Thursday night at home, improving to 7-17-0 overall and 4-9-0 in conference play. Scott Bugarin led the way with two goals while Brent Scott notched the game-winner in the second period.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Framingham State struck first at 13:17 of the first period when Jerry Duckett netted his 6th goal of the season, assisted by Devin Shepherd.
  • Rivier answered late in the opening frame at 18:06, when Mason Rudrud tallied his 8th of the year off assists from Brayden Deschamps and Payton Kender, knotting the game at 1-1 heading to the second.
  • Scott Bugarin gave the Rams the lead for good just 57 seconds into the second period, burying his 10th goal of the season with Sam Larkin picking up the assist.
  • Rivier tied it again at 4:22 when Payton Kender scored his 12th of the year, assisted by Tyler Sitnikov, making it 2-2.
  • Brent Scott put Framingham State ahead to stay at 10:53 of the second, netting the game-winning goal (his 5th of the season) off assists from Nathan Gines and Luke Yubeta.
  • Bugarin added his second goal of the night at 14:01 of the third, again assisted by Larkin, to extend the lead to 4-2.
  • Luke Yubeta capped the scoring with an empty-net, unassisted goal at 19:02 of the third to seal the 5-2 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Framingham State goaltender Isak Saldjoughi earned the win with 27 saves on 29 shots.
  • Rivier goaltender Josh Kirton took the loss, stopping 28 of 33 Framingham State shots.
  • The Rams outshot Rivier 33-29 on the night.
  • Framingham State went 0-for-1 on the power play; Rivier went 0-for-3.
  • Bugarin led all skaters with 2 goals and 4 shots on goal.
