Franklin, Mass.- Dean College's Davonn Smith (Lawrence, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, capping a back-and-forth affair as the host Bulldogs knocked off Framingham State, 3-2, in a wild non-league men's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon.

Records: Framingham State (7-5-2), Dean College (2-10)
Location: Lippert Field, Franklin, Mass.

  • Framingham State actually got on the board first less than eight minutes into the game when Isaac De Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil)connected of a pass from Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) for his first score of the game at 7:43.
  • Things stayed that way until late in the first half when Felipe Campos (Barnstable, Mass.) sent a rolling ball inside the box where Aaron Rivers (Punta Gorda, Fla.) was able to gain control and fire a shot into the lower right corner for his first career marker at 38:16.
  • A little more than four minutes later, the Bulldogs took the lead on a beautiful goal between Campos and Smith. After a quick restart following a foul, Campos took a pass up the left side and served a ball to the right post that Smith was able to head home.
  • After Akeem Bucknor (Manchester, Jamaica) set up De Souzafor his second tally early in the second half to even the score, the momentum seemed to be shifting in favor of the Rams. It looked as if Framingham State would take the lead when Nardizzi and De Souza both had point blank shots on goal but Devin Moore(Walpole, Mass.) was able to turn aside both – including stopping Nardizzi while he was laying on the ground.
  • Smith then teamed up with Paulo Correia (Brockton, Mass.) who sent a ball across the goal mouth that he was able to tap in at 88:57 for the game-winning goal. The goal for Smith was his second of the game and his team-leading fifth of season.

  • Framingham State did hold a 28-19 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, while Moore turned aside 12 shots in goal for the Bulldogs.
