Softball Blanks Skidmore 5-0 and Falls to Defiance 5-2

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team split a pair of games this afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.  The Rams opened the day with a 5-0 shutout victory over Skidmore and closed the day with a 5-2 setback against Defiance.    

In the opener, the Rams broke into the scoring column with a pair of runs in the third inning on a two RBI single to right off the bat of senior Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.).

Framingham State would add two more in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0.  Freshman Jess Morrissey (Barre, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and stole second.  Junior Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) reached on an infield single that moved Morrissey to third.  Morrissey came around to score on an RBI single from sophomore Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) and Ezold scored on an error in the Skidmore infield.

The Rams added a single run in the sixth on an RBI single from senior Sherren Doyle (Middleboro, Mass.) to reach the final margin of 5-0.

Senior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) tossed a complete game to earn the shutout victory in the circle.  Morrissette scattered five hits in seven innings with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.  Ezold finished with a pair of hits, while Shea finished with a pair of RBI.

In game two, Defiance scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning to secure the victory as Lauren Dicke allowed just two earned runs in the game on five hits with four strikeouts.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Ezold led off with a single to right center and came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.).

Defiance tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run when Katie Miller walked and came around to score on a two base error on an overthrow as she attempted to steal second.

The Rams would add a single run in the top of the seventh when Agostini singled to lead off the inning.  She advanced to second on a ground out and came around to score the game's final run on an RBI single by Jaleisa Rookard (Cambridge, Mass.).

Morrissette picked up the loss in relief as she worked one inning surrendering four runs, all unearned, on three hits with two walks.  Begin tossed two innings of scoreless relief to close the game as she surrendered two hits with three strikeouts.

Agostini led the Rams offense in game two with a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Rams return to action tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games against Otterbein at 1 p.m. and Washington College at 5 p.m.
