Softball to Face Salisbury in the Opening Round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament
Framingham, Mass. – The 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's (MASCAC) regular season and tournament champion Framingham State Rams will be making their sixth overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament this week in the regional hosted by Salisbury. The Rams will face the host Sea Gulls for a second straight season in the opening round.
Framingham State finished the 2023 season 32-11 overall and 13-1 in MASCAC action. After earning the top seed in the 2023 MASCAC Softball Tournament, the Rams led by Tournament MVP Ally Moran won three straight games in five innings over the weekend including a 10-2 victory over Bridgewater State in the championship game to earn the MASCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams were led in the circle by Ally Moran. Moran set a new single season record for victories as she went 21-5 in the circle with 16 complete games. She pitched 138.2 innings this season and compiled a 1.16 ERA with 101 strikeouts. Moran earned MASCAC Tournament MVP honors after going 3-0 and allowing just one earned run in 15 innings of work.
The Rams were led offensively this season by Gwendolyn Carpenter who batted .406 with 32 runs scored, 15 doubles, eight home runs and 45 RBI. Camille Desrochers batted .390 on the year with 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, one home run and 34 RBI.
Salisbury, who is currently ranked #1 in the country in the most recent NFCA Top 25, earned the top seed in the Coast-to-Coast Softball Tournament and captured the Tournament Title after defeating Christopher Newport 1-0 on Saturday. The Sea Gulls earned the pool B birth into the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 39-3.
This will be the second meeting all-time between Framingham State and Salisbury, with the first occurring in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Salisbury will be hosting the four team regional over the weekend with Williams and UMass Dartmouth meeting in the other first round game. The double elimination regional competition will take place May 18-20 in Salisbury, MD.
