Second Seed Softball Falls to Top Seed Westfield State 8-7 in MASCAC Tournament Semifinals – Rams to Face Worcester Later Today in an Elimination Game

Framingham, Mass. - The second seed Framingham State University softball team fell to top seed Westfield State 8-7 this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Tournament Semifinal round game at WSU Softball Field.  

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Westfield State 8, Framingham State 7 

- Records: Framingham State (21-18), Westfield State (28-11-1) 

- Location: WSU Softball Field Westfield, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams took the early lead on a two run home run from Makayla Rooney in the top of the first inning, The Owls tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two run homer of their own. 

  • The Rams grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the second on a Haley Jensen RBI single, but once again the Owls plated two in the bottom of the inning taking a 4-3 advantage. 

  • Kelsey McGuill delivered an RBI single to left in the top of the fourth tying the game 4-4, but the Owls received their second two run homer of the game retaking the lead 6-4. 

  • The Rams plated three runs in the top of the fifth taking a 7-6 advantage. Jensen single in a run and Victoria Connelly followed with a sacrifice fly. Gwendolyn Carpenter capped the inning with an RBI double. 

  • The Owls received a two run double in the bottom of the fifth retaking the lead for good. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in relief for the Rams going five innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts. 

  • Jensen finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Rooney finished the game 3-for-4 with a homer, a run scored and two RBI. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams fall into the loser's bracket of the Tournament and will face fourth seed Worcester State this afternoon in an elimination game.
