Second Seed Softball Downs Fourth Seed Worcester State 6-3 in MASCAC Tournament Elimination Game – Rams Advance to Tournament Finals

Framingham, Mass. - The second seed Framingham State University softball team defeated fourth seed Worcester State 6-3 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Tournament elimination game at WSU Softball Field.  

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 6, Worcester State 3 

- Records: Framingham State (22-18), Worcester State (27-16) 

- Location: WSU Softball Field Westfield, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single to left from Talia Duca, but the Lancers tied the game with a single run in the top of the third. 

  • After a scoreless fourth, the Rams used a Kelsey McGuill RBI single to retake the lead 2-1. 

  • The Lancers plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth claiming their first lead of the game 3-2. 

  • The Rams responded with four in the bottom of the inning reclaiming the lead for good. Gwendolyn Carpenter plated a pair with a double to left and Makayla Rooney and Marina Cadena added sacrifice flies. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, two run scored and two RBI, while Cadena, Eliza Carignan and Duca finished the game with a pair of hits apiece. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle going seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams advance to the Tournament finals on Sunday in Westfield at noon. The Rams will have to defeat the Owls twice to win the tournament.
