Softball Defeated 6-1 by Williams College in NCAA Softball Regional

Bangor, Maine - The Framingham State University softball team was defeated 6-1 this morning by Williams College in the winner's bracket of the 2024 NCAA Softball Tournament at O'Keefe Field.  With the loss, the Rams fall into the loser's bracket and will face either Rensselaer or host Husson at 4 p.m. in an elimination game. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Williams 6, Framingham State 1 

- Records: Framingham State (25-19), Williams (25-11) 

- Location: O'Keefe Field Bangor, Maine 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Williams used a two run home run in the bottom of the first to claim a 2-0 lead and extended the lead to 4-0 with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the top of the third. Gwendolyn Carpenter singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. Makayla Rooney singled moving Carpenter to third. After an out, Shelby Roode delivered an RBI single to right plating Carpenter. 

  • Williams would add two more in the bottom of the fourth to reach the final margin. 

  • Senior Caroline Hughes took the loss for the Rams in the circle. Hughes went six innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on 11 hits with a strikeout and no walks. 

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter went 3-for-4 in the game, while Roode finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams will face either Rensselaer or Husson this afternoon at 4 p.m. at O'Keefe in an elimination game. The winner of that game will move on to face Williams tomorrow in the championship round.
