Softball Opens Season with Pair of Losses to Hartford

FraminghamMass- The Framingham State University opened the 2026 season today falling to Hartford by scores of 4-1 and 5-4 in a non-conference double header at Maple Street Field.   

THE BASICS: 

- Scores:  Hartford 4, Framingham State 1/Hartford 5, Framingham State 4

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In the opener, Hartford got on the board in the top of the second on a two run homerun. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the bottom of third on an RBI single from Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson, but the Hawks added two more runs to reach the final margin.  

  • Audrey Gauthier took the loss in the circle going seven innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits, with six strikeouts and six walks. 

  • Etemad-Gilbertson finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI. 

  • In the second game, Hartford plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, before the Rams used an RBI single from Ava Gray to cut the deficit to 2-1 after one. 

  • Hartford extended the lead to two runs with a single run in the top of the fourth. 

  • The Rams pulled back within one, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center from Eliza Carignan. 

  • Hartford added single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh extending the lead to 5-2. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Isabella MacDonald scored on a wild pitch and Kate Brodzinski added an infield RBI single to pull the Rams withing one, but Hartford was able to record the final out to end the game. 

  • Julianna Chisholm took the loss in the circle for the Rams going seven innings, allowing five runs, three earned on 10 hits with five strikeouts. 

  • Brodzinski finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Rams are back in action next Sunday when they face Wisconsin-Stout and Clarkson at the Spring Games.
