Women's Basketball Falls to Salem State
Framingham, MA - Behind 18 points and eight rebounds from sophomore center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA), the Salem State College women's basketball team cruised to an easy 68-38 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) road win over the Framingham State Lady Rams. With the win, the Vikings improve to 18-4 on season and 8-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 5-16 overall and 0-10 in the conference.
The Salem State defense held the Rams to just 14 points in the first half on 5 of 23 shooting from the floor and forced 19 Rams turnovers as the Vikings opened up a comfortable lead at the half. Jenkins scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the first half as she connected on 6 of 14 from the floor. Viking senior guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody, MA) was 5 of 6 from the floor in the first half including 3 of 4 from behind the arc for 13 points to go along with five assists.
The Rams were led offensively by sophomore forward Toya Chester (Leominster, MA) who had a team-high nine points and six rebounds. Senior Jenna Haselhurst (Attleboro, MA) added eight points.
Today was senior day for the Rams and prior to the game seniors Haselhurst and Christina Bordini (Chelmsford, MA) were recognized before the game for their four years on the Framingham State College women's basketball team.
Both teams return to MASCAC action as the Rams travel to Fitchburg State on Tuesday and the Viking travel to MCLA on Monday.
