Meyer Shoots Women's Basketball Past Suffolk
Framingham, Mass. - Reserve guard Nicole Meyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) drained all of her career-high 14 points in the second half to spark Framingham State to a hard-earned 54-49 victory over visiting Suffolk in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Tuesday evening. With the win, Framingham State levels its record at 8-8 while Suffolk dips to the 7-8 on the season.
With the score tied at 36-36, Meyer canned a 3-pointer to give the host Rams an advantage they would not relinquish. The freshman would help FSC stay ahead with two more 3's down the stretch. Suffolk would claw back, nearly rallying from a late nine-point deficit, but Framingham's Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) blocked the potential game-tying 3-pointer and Toya Chester (Leominster, Mass.) sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 0.2 seconds remaining.
Meyer, who connected on 4-of-5 shots from behind the 3-point arc, shared game-best scoring honors with teammate Jill Johnson (Mansfield, Mass.). The duo each poured in 14 points. Chester filled the stat sheets with 11 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while Minor came off the bench to add 10 points and seven boards. Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.) gobbled up 13 rebounds as well to help the hosts enjoy a 46-41 edge on the glass.
Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) paced the Suffolk attack with 12 points while Emily Forzano (Beacon, NY) chipped in with 11 and Julianne Conrad (West Bridgewater, Mass.) contributed with nine points, a team-high eight rebounds and a game-best five steals. Point guard Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, NH) led all players with seven assists to go along with seven points for the visiting Rams.
Framingham State plays its fourth contest of a five-game homestand on Saturday when they host MASCAC rival Fitchburg State at 1 p.m. Suffolk continues GNAC play on Thursday when they travel to Mount Ida for a 6 p.m. matchup.
