Womens Basketball Surges Past Gordon, 63-52
Framingham, Mass. - Sophomore forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) netted a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven boards to lead the Framingham State College women's basketball team to a 63-52 win over Gordon College in non-conference action tonight at Framingham's Athletic Center. The Rams improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Fighting Scots fall to 2-3.
In a game that saw eight ties and 10 lead changes, the Rams used a 15-4 run over the final six minutes to pull out the win. With the score tied 48-48 with 6:29 remaining, the Rams pulled ahead by four after back-to-back buckets from freshman Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and junior Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.). Gordon College senior guard Kimberly Levinsky (West Caldwell, NJ) drained a three to cut the Rams lead to one at 52-51 with 5:30 remaining, but that was as close as they would get.
The Rams would rattle off 12 straight points, including jumpers from Toya Chester (Ayer, Mass.) and Michelle Hagerty (Somerville, Mass.) and a put back from Minor, over the next five minutes to open up a 63-51 lead with 49 seconds remaining. Gordon's only points down the stretch were Levinsky's three and a free throw from Heather DeKleine (Wayland, MI) with 30 seconds left in the game.
The Rams held a decided advantage in points in the paint (28-16) and points off turnovers (24-11) in the game. Chester finished the game with eight points, a game-high 11 boards and a career and game-high 10 assists for the Rams, while McConaghy chipped in 12 points and five boards. Clark also chipped in a game-high four blocks.
The Fighting Scots were led by senior Rebecca Carroll (Pleasant Valley, NY) and freshman Kayla Pacheco (Sutton, Mass.), who had ten points apiece. DeKleine finished with seven points and nine boards.
The Rams return to action on Thursday as they travel to Eastern Nazarene at 7 p.m., while the Fighting Scots travel to Mt. Ida on Thursday at 6 p.m.
