Bowdoin Uses Second Half Run to Defeat Women's Basketball 50-37
Babson Park, Mass. – Bowdoin College opened the second half of play with a 14-0 run on its way to a 50-37 victory over Framingham State University in the consolation game of the 2012 Babson Invitational Tournament at Staake Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Polar Bears return home with a record of 1-1, while the Rams dip to 0-2.
Senior guard Katie Donahoe (Amherst, N.Y.) scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Bowdoin, while sophomore forward Megan Phelps (Southwest Harbor, Maine) added six points, three blocks, and a game-high 14 rebounds. First-year Nina Hadzibabic (Roslyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points, sophomore Siena Mitman (Mequon, Wisc.) pulled down eight boards, and first-year Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Sara Binkhorst (West Hartford, Conn.) each collected six caroms for the Polar Bears, who enjoyed a dominating 52-29 rebounding advantage in the contest. Bowdoin also got back nearly half of its own misses, grabbing 20 offensive rebounds compared to the Rams' 24 defensive caroms.
Framingham state was led in defeat by junior Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.), who netted a game-high 17 points, and senior Kia Minor (Esgartown, Mass.), who contributed 10 points and eight rebounds before fouling out late in the contest. Sophomore Samantha Irvine (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in with eight rebounds and four blocked shots for the Rams, who were limited to just 28.8 percent shooting (15-for-52) from the field in the loss.
After taking a 20-15 lead into the locker room, Bowdoin came out firing in the second half, scoring 14 straight points over the first six minutes to open up a commanding 34-15 advantage. Hadzibabic scored five of her 11 points during the decisive run, as Framingham State would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The Rams are off next week, but resume action on Monday, November 26th when they host Coast Guard at 6 p.m.
