Women’s Basketball Falls to Bridgewater State

Framingham, Mass. – Senior guard Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) led four Bears in double figures as the Bridgewater State University women's basketball team defeated the Framingham State University Rams 92-67 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Framingham's Athletic & Recreation Center.

With the win, the Bears improve to 10-2 on the year and 2-0 in the conference, while the Rams drop their second straight and are now 7-5 on the season and 0-2 in the MASCAC.

Homich connected on 7-of-11 from the field in the game and 10-of-11 from the line en route to her game-high 26 points and she filled the stat sheet with four rebounds, three assists and five steals.  Junior Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) chipped in a double double effort for the Bears with 20 points on 10-of-14 from the floor and a game-best 12 rebounds.  Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) added 19 points including four three pointers, while senior Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) had a strong all around game with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Rams were led in the game by senior forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) who just missed a double double with 24 points and nine boards.  Minor connected on 8-of-15 from the field and 8-of-12 from the line.  Junior guard Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) recorded 20 points on 8-of-15 from the floor to go along with six boards and two steals, while sophomore Nicole Bostic (Raynham, Mass.) also recorded double figures with 12 points and six assists.  Classmate Margo McCarthy (Southampton, Mass.) was a point shy of a double double as she finished nine points and 10 boards.

The Bears broke open a one point game midway through the half with a 24-5 run to take a 43-23 lead with 3:58 on the clock. Homich started the run with a pair of free throws and back-to-back threes as the Bears took control and never looked back.  Homich tallied 14 points during the spurt and finished the first half with 23 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from behind the arc, while Megan Boutilette added 10 in the opening frame as the Bears shot 60% from the floor.

The Rams, who shot just 31% in the opening stanza, were led in the first half by the duo of Minor and Hoffman, who combined for 22 first half points.  Minor connected on 6-of-6 from the line in the opening half en route to 12 points, while Hoffman connected on 4-of-8 from the field for 10 points.

The Bears cooled off in the second half shooting just 47% in the frame and 53% for the game, but maintained the big advantage throughout the half.  The Rams were able to cut the deficit to 14 at one point in the second half (57-43), but the Bears closed the game with another run to take their largest lead of the game at the final margin of 92-67.

The Rams continue conference play on Saturday at Fitchburg State at 1 p.m., while the Bears play a non-conference game at UMass Boston on Thursday at 5 p.m.
