Hoffman Grabs All-Tournament Honors as Women's Basketball Defeats Elms, 83-68

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team  has five players reach double figures as the Rams defeated Elms College in the consolation game of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Classic on Saturday afternoon, 83-62.

Framingham State (1-1) senior Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) earned All-Tournament team honors for her impressive play. Over the two days, Hoffman was on the court averaged 17.5 points per game, 7.5 rebound and 7.5 steals.  Hoffman led the Rams with 21 points on 7-of-11 from the field against Elms to go along with eight boards, eight steals, five assists and two blocks.

Junior Samantha Irvine (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Montá Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) each recorded a double double. Irvine dropped 13 points and snagged 12 boards, while Connolly registered career-highs of 12 points and 12 rebounds.    Junior Kayla Murkison (Lynn, Mass.) sparked the Rams off the bench in the first half with 13 points, while sophomore Kerry Coyne (North Attleboro, Mass.) contributed 12.

Elms (0-2) junior Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) was selected for the All-Tournament team for her efforts. The junior forward averaged 23 points and six boards for the tournament.  Parks put in 34 points, including 15-17 from the charity stripe against the Rams.

Gianna Youngblood (East Freetown, Mass.) and Marissa Merrill (Meredith, N.H.) each contributed seven points for the Blazers, while freshman Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) added six points of her own.

The Blazers held an early 10-9 advantage, but the lead quickly changed hands following a 16-2 run by Framingham State.  Right before the half, Elms was able to cut the deficit down to 12 points following a made free throw by Parks.

The Rams broke open the game mid-way through the second half when Hoffman connected with Murkison for a three ball to increase their lead to 60-36.

Framingham State dominated the inside scoring 32 points in the paint and shot 42.9 percent from the field. The Rams bench also outscored the Blazer reserves 38-11 in the contest.

Elms returns to action when they host Bard College on Tuesday, November 26 at 6 p.m., while the Rams travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday evening.
