Second Seed Women's Basketball Advances to MASCAC Tournament Final with 60-56 Victory over Fourth Seed Salem State

Framingham, Mass. - The second seeded Framingham State University women's basketball team used a layup from Jacqueline Schels with just under two to play as the Rams went ahead for good in a 60-56 victory over four seed Salem State tonight in one semifinal of the 2026 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Tournament at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were led by double double of 24 points and 13 rebounds from Schels. Schels connected on 8-of-16 from the field and added four assists, two steals and three blocks. 

  • Faith Greene added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Zaria Anderson came off the bench to score 10 points including 7-of-7 from the line with four of those coming in the final minute of play. 

  • In the first quarter, the Rams led 5-2 after a Schels three with just over six on the clock, but the Vikings used a 7-0 run to claim a 9-5 lead with just under three on the clock. The Rams closed the first with an 8-2 run capped by another Schels three to lead 13-11 after one. 

  • The Rams opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run over the first four minutes and extended their lead to 26-15 on a three point play from Schels with three minutes on the clock. The Rams took a 33-19 lead at the half after Schels tallied 17 first half points as she shot 4-of-8 from behind the arc. 

  • In the third, the Vikings scored the first six points of the quarter and cut the deficit to 38-33 with just over five on the clock. The Rams responded with a run of their own capped by a Cerruti three to push the lead to 47-36 after three. 

  • In the fourth, Salem held the Rams to just five points in the first seven minutes as they erased the deficit and tied the game at 52-52 with 3:07 on the clock. 

  • After trading buckets, Schels put the Rams on top for good with a basket with 1:42 to play, and Anderson went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the game.

The Rams will face top seed Bridgewater State in Bridgewater on Sunday afternoon with the winner receiving the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
