Women’s Ice Hockey Opens Inaugural Season with Setback vs. Nichols

Framingham, MA – The Framingham State women's ice hockey team opened up their first season with a 6-0 loss to Nichols College in non-conference action Thursday evening at Loring Arena.  

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Nichols 6, Framingham State 0 

  • Records: Nichols (1-0-0), Framingham State (0-1-0) 

  • Location: Framingham, MA 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Nichols wasted no time establishing their offensive presence, with Melissa Montesi opening the scoring at 2:54 in the first period, assisted by Cela MacDougall and Angalisa Caceda.  

  • Nichols added two more goals in the first period, including one by Grace Melanson at 17:50, who went on to score a hat trick and finished the night with four goals.  

  • Nichols kept the pressure on throughout, adding two goals in the second period and a final power-play goal in the third to secure the 6-0 victory. 

 

KEY PERFORMERS: 

 Nichols: 

  • Grace Melanson: Led the attack with four goals, including a power-play goal in the third period. 

  • Cela MacDougall: Contributed two assists and was active in playmaking throughout the game. 

  • Goalie McKenzie Muir: Secured a shutout with 11 saves, denying Framingham's attempts on goal. 

 

Framingham State: 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots on Goal: Nichols overwhelmed Framingham with 83 shots compared to Framingham's 11. 

  • Penalties: Framingham State had a challenging night with 23 penalty minutes on 10 infractions, while Nichols accumulated 10 penalty minutes on five infractions. 

  • Power Plays: Nichols converted one of their nine power-play opportunities, while Framingham State went 0 for 3 on the power play.

The Rams return to action on Friday when they play the other end of their home-and-home series with Nichols slated for a 5:40pm start.
