Women's Ice Hockey Rallies for 6-2 Win Over Anna Maria, Advances to MASCAC Semifinals

WORCESTER, MASS. – Framingham State's women's ice hockey team erupted for five third-period goals, including a hat trick from Molly Murphy, to defeat Anna Maria 6-2 on Wednesday evening at Worcester. The victory sends the Rams to the MASCAC semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria struck first late in the opening period, as Grace Holden scored her first goal of the game at 18:31, assisted by Quinn Bennett and Alexandria Mupo, to give the Cats a 1-0 lead after one.
  • Framingham State responded in the second period when Molly Murphy tallied her eighth goal of the season at 12:45, assisted by Alexis Brown and Katie Creath, knotting the game at 1-1.
  • The two teams entered the third period tied, where the Rams took over. Alexis Brown put FSU ahead at 3:34 with an even-strength goal assisted by Amy Tansek and Petra Cernicek — her seventh of the season.
  • Anna Maria answered at 9:27 when Holden scored again, assisted by Lauren Sundgren and Bennett, pulling even at 2-2.
  • FSU seized control for good at 11:44 when Murphy converted a power-play goal — the game-winner — assisted by Rylee Bogren, making it 3-2.
  • With Anna Maria serving multiple penalties, Alyssa Tansek added a power-play goal at 13:29, assisted by Finley Hogan, extending the lead to 4-2.
  • Brown then scored an unassisted empty-net goal at 16:17 to push the margin to 5-2.
  • Murphy capped the scoring — and completed the hat trick — with another empty-net goal at 18:53, assisted by Brown, for the final score of 6-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lila Chamoun (FSU) made 47 saves on 49 shots in net, earning the win in 60:00 minutes; Emma Brewer (AMC) stopped 27 of 33 shots in 57:07.
  • Anna Maria outshot Framingham State 49-33, including 16 shots in each of the first two periods, but FSU dominated the third with 18 shots.
  • Molly Murphy finished with 3 goals and 10 for the season; Alexis Brown added 2 goals and 2 assists (8 points on the season); Alyssa Tansek scored her second goal of the year.
  • FSU went 2-for-5 on the power play; Anna Maria was 0-for-5.
