Women's Ice Hockey Falls 4-0 in MASCAC Semifinal

WORCESTER, MASS. – The Framingham State women's hockey team saw its season come to a close Friday evening, falling 4-0 to Worcester State in the MASCAC Semifinal at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • First Period – Worcester State broke the scoreless tie at 10:51 when Fiona Hatton put home her first goal of the season, unassisted. The Lancers outshot FSU 14-7 in the period. Framingham State had a power play opportunity after Julie Hammer was whistled for holding at 12:00, but could not convert.
  • Second Period – The Lancers extended the lead to 2-0 at 3:56 when Avery Ireland found the back of the net, also her first goal of the season. The goal came just seconds after a Framingham State penalty (Amy Tansek, interference at 1:44) expired, with Worcester State unable to convert on the man advantage but generating consistent pressure. Worcester outshot FSU 18-7 in the frame.
  • Third Period – Worcester State put the game away with two goals in quick succession. Leyla Tiernan scored at 8:24, assisted by Avery Ireland, and Lindsay Wagner added another just 42 seconds later at 9:06, assisted by Emily Curran, making it 4-0. Worcester dominated the final period 19-6 in shots.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Goaltending: Lila Chamoun (FSU) stopped 47 of 51 shots in a standout individual performance despite the loss. Kelsey Czerniawski (WSU) turned aside all 20 Framingham State shots for the shutout.
  • Shots: Worcester State held a commanding 51-20 shots-on-goal advantage.
  • Power Plays: Framingham State went 0-for-2 on the man advantage; Worcester State went 0-for-3.
  • Faceoffs: Worcester State edged FSU in faceoffs, 31-30.
  • Notable FSU performances: Alexis Brown led FSU skaters with 4 shots on goal. Katherine Creath recorded a team-high 3 blocked shots.
