Softball Lands Five on All-MASCAC Teams – Marsh Named Rookie of the Year
Framingham, Mass. - Framingham State University freshman utility player Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Year and earned All-MASCAC honors along with four teammates.
Joining Marsh on the All-MASCAC first team are senior first baseman Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) and freshman outfielder Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.). On the second team are sophomore third baseman Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore pitcher Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.).
Marsh, who saw action at first, second, short and in the outfield this season, was named MASCAC Rookie of the Week once as she led the Rams offensively hitting .456 with 11 doubles, five triples and seven RBI. In 32 games this season, Marsh recorded multiple hits in 16 of them and finished the year with 47 total hits, just four shy of the FSU softball single season record.
Smith grabbed her first All-MASCAC nod after hitting .227 with four doubles and 16 RBI with a .983 fielding percentage. Smith, who also saw time in the circle for the Rams, committed just three errors on the year. Belliveau earned her first All-MASCAC honors after an outstanding freshman season. Belliveau hit .352 with eight doubles, two triples and two homeruns while driving in 24 runs and scoring 19.
Falzone and Ferri both earn their first second team recognition after their sophomore campaigns. After a slow start, Ferri finished the regular season with a 7-3 record winning seven in a row at one stretch in the middle of the season. Ferri tossed five complete games and finished with an ERA of 3.33 in 95 innings of work. Falzone batted .319 with 36 hits including seven doubles and two triples with 21 RBI.
The Rams finished the regular season 8-6 in the MASCAC and 18-18 overall earning the 5th seed in the MASCAC Softball Tournament.
