Late Husky Surge Halts Women’s Lacrosse Comeback against Southern Maine

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team closed the third and opened the fourth with five unanswered goals, but Southern Maine tallied three goals in the final four minutes to earn a 12-9 victory over the Rams this evening inon-conference action at Maple Street Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 midway through the first quarter. The Rams got on the board on a goal from Jenna James off a feed from Kate McGovern closing the gap to 4-1. 

  • The Huskies closed the first period with three straight to lead 7-1 after one. 

  • The Rams held the Huskies off the board in the second period and added goals from Emma Kendzulak and Kelley DeBellis to close the deficit to 7-3 at the half. 

  • Southern Maine opened the third with a free position goal, but a Lily Malloy tally pulled the Rams with four at 8-4. 

  • Southern Maine pushed the lead back to five with just over five to play in the third, but back-to-back goals from Kendzulak closed the gap to 9-6 after three. 

  • The Rams continued their hot streak to start the fourth scoring three straight including the game tying goal from Kendzulak with just over five to play. 

  • Southern Maine scored the final three goals of game in the final 4:02 to earn the victory. 

  • Kendzulak finished the game with four goals and an assist, while James finished with two goals and a helper.
