Womens Soccer Wins Third Straight
Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College women's soccer team picked up their third straight shutout win and their second straight win at home with a 2-0 victory today over Elms College in non-conference action at Maple Street Field. With the win, the Rams improve to 4-6 on the season, while the loss drops the Blazers to 4-7.
Framingham State controlled the pace of play from the onset and outshot the Blazers 23-4 on the day. The Rams had a chance to take the lead in the 13th minute as junior Melissa Price (Norwood, Mass.) took a thru ball and fired a shot at the net that hit the post. The rebound came out to sophomore Kelly Olsen (Stoneham, Mass.) but Elms College goalkeeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, Mass.) was able to recover and make the diving save.
The Rams were able to capitalize and take the lead in the 35th minute as sophomore Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game winner. Price carried the ball down the right sideline and sent a centering pass to Kiley alone at the top of the box and Kiley was able to knock it home for her first goal of the season.
Freshman Kim Clooney (Weymouth, Mass.) extended the Rams lead to two goals with just over three minutes remaining in the half as she took a thru ball from classmate Kara Herbert (Merrimac, Mass.) and placed a shot into the low corner for her fourth goal of the season.
Framingham State goalkeeper Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) made three saves on the day and picked up her fourth shutout win of the season, while Corse kept the Blazers within striking distance making 13 saves in the game.
The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Salem State at 3 p.m., while the Blazers host St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
