Box Score

Gorham, Maine  --  The Framingham State College women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker today in double overtime to the University of Southern Maine as junior midfielder Heidi DeHaan (Lewiston, Maine) scored her second goal of the match 56 seconds into the second sudden-death overtime period to give the Huskies a 3-2 victory in a non-conference women's soccer match at the USM Soccer Field.

The victory snapped a four-match losing skid for the Huskies who improved to 3-12-0 overall, while the Rams dropped their third straight and slipped to 4-9-0 on the season.

Freshman Catherine Wise (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) lofted a pass towards DeHaan on the left side that slipped past the FSC defender.  DeHaan streaked toward goal and drove a 15-yard shot past freshman goalkeeper Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) for the winning marker.

Framingham State forced the match into added time when sophomore Laura Powers (Norwell, Mass.) lofted a high shot from just outside the penalty area off the hands of USM senior keeper Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand) with 1:43 left in regulation time.

Junior Danielle Poulin (Readfield, Maine) gave USM an early 1-0 lead when she scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Wise in the eighth minute.

The Rams even the game in the 21st minute when freshman Laura Gray (Chicopee, Mass.) picked up a loose ball in the box following a corner kick and knocked home a shot.

DeHaan's first goal of the match, off an assist from sophomore Kristen Willard (Glenburn, Maine), restored the Huskies' lead in 28th minute.

Bradley finished the match making seven saves, while Minor was not credited with a save.  Framingham State had a 15-10 advantage on shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. for its final regular season home match hosting Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference encounter, while Framingham State will host MASCAC rival Worcester State College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
