Womens Soccer Closes Season with 3-0 Loss to Fitchburg State
Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College women's soccer team closed out the 2009 season at home today with a 3-0 loss to Fitchburg State College at Maple Street Field in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action. The Rams and the Falcons both finish the season at 5-11-1 overall. The Falcons end up 3-4 in the MASCAC, while the Rams finish 1-5-1 in conference.
The Falcons outshot the Rams 19-10 in the game and wasted no time taking the lead. Sophomore midfielder Lindsay Taylor (Blythewood, S.C.) scored the game winner in the 23rd minute. Senior Lauren Wundt (Southwick, Mass.) fired a shot at the net that deflected off a Ram defender and Taylor corralled the loose ball and placed a shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
Taylor would add her second of the day, an unassisted tally on a breakaway in the 25th minute, to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Framingham State freshman Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) made ten saves and picked up the loss in net, while Emily Swan and Kyla Batchelder combined to hold the Rams scoreless with Swan making one save and Batchelder making five in the second half.
The Falcons added an insurance goal at 61:40 as Julie Dowson (Winthrop, Mass.) scored on a breakaway.
