Hyland Sends Women’s Soccer Soaring Over Fitchburg

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State University junior Michaela Hyland (East Longmeadow, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie in the 77^th minute to thrust the FSU women's soccer team over Fitchburg State 1-0 Saturday evening at Maple St. Field. The game was the MASCAC opener for both squads. With the win the Rams improve to 4-2 (1-0 MASCAC) and the Falcons drop to 2-3 (0-1 MASCAC).

Even though the Rams controlled the tempo for the majority of the contest it took until the 77^th minute for either squad to break through when Hyland scored the contests' lone goal with the assist coming from junior Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.).

The Falcons had a chance to tie with just over 8 minutes to play when a Rams foul setup a free kick from about 30 yards out for junior Victoria Floeck (East Taunton, Mass.). Floeck sent a high sinking kick that was tipped up and saved by Rams freshman goal keeper Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.).

Gagne-Lamoureux making her first collegiate start, made 3 saves earning her first career win and shutout. Junior Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) made 9 saves in net for the Falcons.

The Rams return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 23^rd when they host Rhode Island College at 4:00 p.m. The Falcons will host Curry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15^th.
