Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State University junior Michaela Hyland (East Longmeadow, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie in the 77th minute to thrust the FSU women's soccer team over Fitchburg State 1-0 Saturday evening at Maple St. Field. The game was the MASCAC opener for both squads. With the win the Rams improve to 4-2 (1-0 MASCAC) and the Falcons drop to 2-3 (0-1 MASCAC).
Even though the Rams controlled the tempo for the majority of the contest it took until the 77th minute for either squad to break through when Hyland scored the contests' lone goal with the assist coming from junior Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.).
The Falcons had a chance to tie with just over 8 minutes to play when a Rams foul setup a free kick from about 30 yards out for junior Victoria Floeck (East Taunton, Mass.). Floeck sent a high sinking kick that was tipped up and saved by Rams freshman goal keeper Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.).
Gagne-Lamoureux making her first collegiate start, made 3 saves earning her first career win and shutout. Junior Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) made 9 saves in net for the Falcons.
The Rams return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 23rd when they host Rhode Island College at 4:00 p.m. The Falcons will host Curry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15th.
