Worcester State Edges Women’s Soccer 1-0 in Defensive Battle

Framingham, MA – A lone first-half goal by Jessica Forbes was enough to give Worcester State a narrow 1-0 win over Framingham State at Maple Street Field on Friday night. The victory improved the Lancers' conference record to 3-2-0, while the Rams fell to 1-3-1 in league play. 

THE BASICS:

  • Records: Worcester State (6-5-2, 3-2-0), Framingham State (2-12-1, 1-3-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The only goal of the match came in the 25th minute when Jessica Forbes finished off a pass from Olivia Magierowski, slotting the ball past Framingham's goalkeeper, Madison Magone.  

  • Despite being outshot 21-10, the Rams managed to keep the game close thanks to a stellar performance from Magone, who recorded 12 saves. 

  • Framingham State created a few chances to equalize, with Hailey Ring, Grayson Tellier, and Hailey Baker all testing Worcester State's keeper, Ella Gumienny, who made 6 saves to preserve the shutout. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots: Worcester State had a clear advantage in shots, taking 21 total compared to Framingham's 10. 

  • Saves: Magone made 12 saves for Framingham State, while Gumienny had 6 saves for Worcester State. 

  • Corner Kicks: Both teams earned 5 corner kicks each, though all of Framingham's came in the second half. 

  • Fouls: The match was physical, with Framingham committing 10 fouls to Worcester's 8.
