Field Hockey Falls 8-0 at JWU in Season Opener

Providence, R.I. – The Framingham State field hockey team was defeated 8-0 on the road against Johnson & Wales University in their season opener Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

JWU got on the board early in the 11th minute when Haley Budenas found the back of the net off a setup from Kamryn Bailey. Less than three minutes later, Izzy Ward doubled the lead for the Wildcats with an assist from Zofia Bangs. 

JWU added two more goals in the third period, including another from Ward, and continued their offensive onslaught in the final period, scoring four more times to secure the victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Framingham State's goalies, Kaitlyn Tello and Rowan Whittaker, combined for 25 saves in the contest. Tello started and made 11 saves in the first half, while Whittaker, who played the second half, recorded 14 saves despite facing intense pressure. 

JWU held a decisive 49-4 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.

The Rams will look to rebound when they return to action on Thursday, hosting their home opener against Lasell at 4:30pm.
